5 months in and I’m still going! I can hardly believe it, but somehow I’ve managed to take a photo of Luca nearly everyday since he was born. Life with a baby is getting more predictable. We are sleeping more and Luca’s schedule is becoming more predictable. Even taking photos, is becoming a regular part of our daily routine! I know I say it every month, but it is crazy how much my sweet baby has changed!
This month, I’m really into the selfie. Yes, it’s true, people despise selfies. Apparently, even science confirms that selfies are the worst. According to the Daily Lounge, an academic paper titled “Tagger’s Delight? Disclosure and liking behaviour in Facebook: the effects of sharing photographs amongst multiple known social circles” claims there is a correlation between posting selfies and shallow relationships and a decrease in intimacy.
Side Note: The photo isn’t technically a selfie, but doesn’t it look like Luca grabbed the camera and hopped on the bandwagon? Baby’s first selfie!
The thing is, when you are home alone with a baby all day long, selfies happen a lot. While babies are cute, they are also little blobs that don’t do all that much. So to mix things, up I’ve started taking selfies of Luca and I. While my Facebook friends Instagram followers may not be into my selfies, I think that ten years from now Luca might like them. It will be nice for my little boy to look back at my 365 project to see pictures of the two of us.
If you are working on your own 365, I encourage you, to get out from behind the camera and include yourself in the frame. That may mean taking a selfie here and there. If your 365 is focused on your kids, I think selfies are a great idea. In the end, your kids are the ones who are the ones who are going to care about a project like this. What kid wouldn’t want pictures of their mommy included in this type of project?
